In the past three years, the number of medical device patent applications submitted in Korea has risen by 30%. This trend follows the country’s rising demand for medical devices due to its aging population and rise of chronic diseases. The Korean Intellectual Property Office has also created a “medical device patent classification connection table,” allowing people to quickly access data relating to medical device trends. Applications in biometrics has had the highest growth rate in recent years. The Korean government is currently pushing for a larger domestic medical device business.
