In June 2016, China implemented a new digital system to record medical data. This system would transform China’s medical sector by allowing health professionals and researchers to have access to a unified system of big data. This system includes data from clinical trials, secure patient information, medical resources, and previous clinical research, among others. It will not only make it more convenient for researchers to reference previous data in order to develop new treatments and cures, but it will also increase healthcare accessibility in rural areas. The Chinese government hopes to have online patient records for the entire population by 2020.
