China to Lower Import Tariffs on Select Medical Products in 2026

According to the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council, China will begin reducing its import tariffs on several medical goods starting in 2026. The purpose of this policy is to allow for increased access to sophisticated medical technology like artificial blood vessels, diagnostic testing products for certain infectious diseases, and other advanced and new medical goods.

Additionally, under the new framework, China’s provisional import tariffs on more than 900 products will be lowered and become less than the most-favored-nations (MFN) rates imposed on WTO countries. The tariff changes will affect non-medical products as well. However, the inclusion of medical devices indicates a continued commitment to improving China’s healthcare.

These reductions in tariffs come at a time when global trade tensions have created considerable challenges for multinational medical device companies. This initiative is poised to lessen importation costs and improve supply availability for advanced imported medical devices in China.
