China announces pilot “smart system” to track and monitor drugs and medical devices. Goal is to implement nationwide

Pushing to strengthen its supervision of drugs and medical devices across its vast market, China’s National Medical Products Administration in May launched a pilot data-sharing platform to track product information digitally across 17 provinces. If successful, the system will be fully operational across the country by the end of the year and will allow government officials nationwide to trace drug and medical device products more easily and efficiently than ever before.

The system would link product information that is currently disparate and difficult to access, give the public easy access to information on drugs and medical devices via government websites and monitor the supply, distribution and recalls of drugs.
