In Vietnam, foreign medical companies must appoint a Vietnamese entity to act as their local agent. A foreign medical company that does not wish to set up its own business or utilize a distributor for product registration in Vietnam can employ the services of an independent third party.

Why should a foreign medical company choose an independent third party to act as their local agent in Vietnam?

• The independent third-party agent can register your company’s medical products and hold product registrations and licenses in your name. The advantage of this is that you can easily switch distributors instead of being beholden to a distributor who holds your product registrations and may not be doing a good job selling your products.
• A third-party local agent will also represent your company with the Drug Administration of Vietnam (DAV) and the Department of Medical Equipment and Health Works (DMEHW).
• Other services provided by a Vietnamese third-party in-country representative include notifying the DAV and DMEHW of any changes in your product, alerting your company to any regulatory amendments, and overseeing adverse event reporting and product recalls.
