China to institute national online vaccine tracking system

Seeking to more effectively manage, distribute and ensure the efficacy of publicly funded vaccines, Chinese health authorities plan to institute a web-based national vaccine tracking system in the next three months. The system, piloted in seven major provinces last year, is designed to be a secure, web-based information technology system that integrates the entire publicly funded vaccine supply chain from purchasing and ordering through distribution to participating state, local, and territorial health departments. The tracking system will be managed by China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) and the National Health Commission. The targeted launch is March 31.
