Vietnam Responds to Pandemic with Embrace of Digital Healthcare Technologies

With the COVID-19 pandemic bringing into focus the need for better collection and use of data in healthcare, health authorities in Vietnam are pushing to accelerate the development of artificial intelligence platform and technologies.

In June, the Ministry of Health announced an effort to build a national healthcare database and initiate a program of AI-powered digital transformation. Among the technologies earmarked for government investment are AI-powered radiology diagnostic equipment, healthcare data algorithms and analysis platforms, virtual and augmented reality systems, robotics, and 3D printing.

While government authorities have not announced how big the investment will be, they are making clear that the effort will include building standards for the use of digital technologies, as well as a legal framework and a raft of technical standards.
