Singapore Plans to Establish Telehealth Device Guidelines

Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority (HSA), which is administered by the Ministry of Health, plans to establish guidelines for telehealth devices. A telehealth device is any instrument, machine, or software that helps provide healthcare services through telecommunications. Under the proposed regulations, telehealth devices may be classified as medical devices. A telehealth device also classified as a medical device would be subject to the same regulations as other medical devices. The HSA posted the draft guidelines for consultation between October and November 2016. The finalized guidelines are expected to be announced and implemented in 2017.
