Medical device registrations in China down precipitously

Registrations of new medical devices dropped sharply in China last year, with the overall level of registration activity down to its lowest level since China started publishing registration data six years ago. Initial registrations of medical devices with China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) fell by a quarter in 2018 from the more than 8,500 filings received in 2017. Renewals of devices previously approved were also down, as were registrations by provincial FDA authorities. Chinese officials offered no explanation for the drop.
