China Releases New Set of Medical Device Standards

In early May 2016, the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) issued two new announcements that will raise the industry standards for medical devices. Of the 186 total new standards, 42 are mandatory while the remaining 144 are recommended. These standards will affect a wide range of medical devices, including implants, disinfection equipment, dental equipment, and ophthalmic equipment, among others. The CFDA hopes that these new standards will improve the quality of Chinese medical devices and further protect the public’s health.
