China Issues New Strict Regulation for Online Sales of Pharmaceuticals

China’s State Administration for Market Regulation announced on September 1 new regulations of online drug sales. The regulation will be implemented on December 1 to strengthen and increase oversight. The Measures for the Supervision and Administration of Online Drug Sales includes 6 chapters and 42 articles. The main sections include – 1. The obligations, qualifications, and responsibilities for online drug sellers, 2. Sales of Rx drugs should be supervised and controlled, and 3. The safety requirements for e-commerce platform companies should be built up.

Chinese drug market authorization holders and drug distributors can become online sellers if they have the qualifications and resources to safely sell. However, they must not sell fake prescriptions or fail to comply with the regulations, or they will be penalized severely.
