Reimbursement for Medical Devices in Korea

The main agency determining medical device reimbursement in Korea is the Health Insurance Review Agency (HIRA). HIRA accepts and reviews applications for reimbursement approvals submitted by medical device manufacturers. Normally, the medical device reimbursement process takes 4-6 months.

HIRA determines reimbursement by looking at the current reimbursements for similar products in the same sub-category. HIRA generally does not appreciate the value of new technology and sometimes reduces prices at its own discretion.
