Regulatory Strategy for Medical Devices and Pharmaceuticals/Drugs in the Philippines
The Philippines is a large country in Southeast Asia with about 90 million people.
In the Philippines, drugs and medical devices both require registration before marketing. The Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) is responsible for drug registration. Until recently, the BFAD was also responsible for medical device registration. In 2007, responsibility for medical device registration was transferred to the Bureau of Health Devices and Technology (BHDT). The Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act provides the regulations to monitor food, drug, medical devices, diagnostic reagents, and cosmetics in the Philippines.
