Chinese Government Enters Negotiations for High-Value Medical Supplies

On September 15, 2017, the National Health and Planning Commission started a high-value medical supplies negotiation, which puts imported medical supplies companies at a crossroad: whether to cut prices and win the market and government trust, or to keep imported devices at high prices.

The National Health and Planning Commission issued the “on the national high value medical supplies price negotiations business reporting notice”, naming 1) drug coronary stent systems, 2) artificial hip prostheses, 3) implantable cardioverter defibrillator series, and 4) heart and then synchronized treatment series as pilot products. The government will gather the market sales of public hospitals and negotiate with manufacturing companies for a better price in these four areas.
