China Planning to Speed Up the Approval Process for Critical Drugs

In a statement released on February 26, 2016, the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) announced that it would accelerate the approval process for certain new medicines. These new medicines will treat high priority diseases including AIDS, viral hepatitis, and illnesses that affect the young children and the elderly. The CFDA also announced that it will prioritize drugs using new technologies or treatments. While the drug registration process has become more lengthy and expensive in recent years, Chinese regulators hope that these new plans will speed up registration and allow new, critical drugs to reach patients more quickly.
